Chaitra Navratri
March – AprilBeginning on the first day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, which in north Indian reckoning also marks the Hindu New Year (Vikram Samvat), Chaitra Navratri brings the first great mela of the year. The desert spring is mild, and families often combine the pilgrimage with mundan ceremonies and vows made over the previous year.
The nine days end with Ram Navami. Ashtami and Navami usually bring the largest crowds, with the Goddess's special shringar, havan and kanya pujan (worship of young girls as forms of the Goddess) held across the village.
